Pheromones are chemical substances that transmit information to individuals of the same species. In pigs, appeasing pheromone procures a feeling of calm and confidence in animals of all ages. This can be applied on farms to a whole host of behavioural problems that can be severely detrimental to production (problems relating to poor development of maternal behaviour, aggressiveness in groups, transport stress, etc.).
